VHB is looking to add an experienced Electrical Engineer Lead with extensive substation, interconnection, solar and battery storage experience to our growing Energy Engineering practice. The position would work with other practice groups in VHB, including civil and structural engineering, environmental, planning, and regulatory groups primarily as part of an integrated team supporting energy project design, permitting, and delivery. Ideally this candidate will have strong project/client management skills, leadership experience, market connectivity and thrive as a seller-doer. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Represents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss design issues.
  • Responsible for client relationships, visibility, and business development.
  • Oversee the development of project scopes and deliverables such as electrical layouts, one-line documents, construction documents, and equipment specifications.
  • Develop specifications, collect data, and complete utility interconnection applications.
  • Develop detailed equipment specifications.
  • Coordinate activities between clients, utilities, contractors, and other engineering disciplines.
  • Lead the integration of energy storage systems into the solar PV system.
  • Prepare written technical reports and oral presentations documenting findings, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Provide expert electrical engineering witness services.
  • Perform system impact studies.
  • Provide mentorship and training to early career engineering personnel.

Skills and Attributes

  • Strong project and client management skills.
  • Extensive market connectivity and business development skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations related to electrical engineering.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in project and client relationship management and collaborative problem solving with stakeholders, clients, and teammates.
  • Self-motivated with ability to think critically.
  • Strong report writing and presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 8-11 years of electrical engineering design experience (5 years designing commercial & utility scale solar PV systems, BESS, or equivalent) required.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License in electrical engineering
  • Familiarity with the National Electrical Code and National Electric Safety Code.
  • Experience working in the northeastern U.S. is preferred.

Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Boston/Watertown, MA is $125,000-160,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
